Tennessee Onions

A Southern classic made with sweet onions, melty cheese, and a buttery cracker topping. Perfect as a cozy side dish for any occasion!

Ingredients
  

  • 3 large sweet onions Vidalia or yellow, sliced into ½-inch rings
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or breadcrumbs

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  • Arrange the onion slices in an even layer in the casserole dish.
  • Pour the heavy cream over the onions and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Evenly distribute the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the onions.
  • In a small bowl, mix the crushed Ritz crackers with the remaining 3 tablespoons of melted butter. Sprinkle the cracker mixture on top of the cheese.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the onions are tender, the cheese is melted, and the topping is golden brown. Serve warm!

Notes

Instructions Variant (Simplified):
Slice onions and layer in a greased casserole dish.
Add cream, seasonings, and cheese.
Top with buttery crushed crackers.
