Tennessee Onions

- 3 large sweet onions Vidalia or yellow, sliced into ½-inch rings
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or breadcrumbs
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
Arrange the onion slices in an even layer in the casserole dish.
Pour the heavy cream over the onions and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Evenly distribute the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the onions.
In a small bowl, mix the crushed Ritz crackers with the remaining 3 tablespoons of melted butter. Sprinkle the cracker mixture on top of the cheese.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the onions are tender, the cheese is melted, and the topping is golden brown. Serve warm!
Instructions Variant (Simplified):
Slice onions and layer in a greased casserole dish.
Add cream, seasonings, and cheese.
Top with buttery crushed crackers.
