Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1/2 cup Nutella or your favorite chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • Optional: Powdered sugar or melted chocolate for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Set your oven to around 350°F (175°C) if you're following a standard recipe, though some recipes might suggest a slightly higher temperature like 400°F (200°C).

Thaw the Puff Pastry:

  • If using frozen puff pastry, ensure it's thawed according to package instructions. It should be cold but pliable.

Prepare the Pastry:

  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface if it isn't already in a sheet form. Aim for a rectangle shape for easier rolling. If the pastry comes pre-rolled, simply ensure it's even.

Spread Nutella:

  • Spread a generous but even layer of Nutella over the entire surface of one sheet of puff pastry, leaving a small border along one of the longer edges for sealing later. If Nutella is too firm to spread easily, you can warm it slightly in the microwave.

Roll Up:

  • Starting from the opposite end of where you left the border, gently but firmly roll the pastry into a log. Press the border down to seal it.

Slice the Rolls:

  • Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, slice the log into even pieces, about 1 to 1.5 inches thick.

Arrange on Baking Sheet:

  • Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart to allow for expansion.

Egg Wash (Optional):

  • For a golden finish, beat an egg with a little water and brush over the tops of the rolls.

Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and the puff pastry has puffed up nicely.

Cool and Serve:

  • Let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
