Puff Pastry Apple Turnovers

Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry thawed
  • 2 medium apples peeled and chopped
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tbsp water for egg wash
  • 1-2 tbsp coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions
 

Prepare the filling:

  • In a saucepan, combine the chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, until tender. Let cool completely.

Prepare the pastry:

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 4 equal squares.

Assemble the turnovers:

  • Place 2-3 tbsp of filling in the center of each square. Fold into triangles and seal the edges with a fork. Cut small slits in the tops.

Brush and bake:

  • Whisk the egg and water, then brush over the turnovers. Sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown.

Cool and serve:

  • Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
